There s also a nosplash option for starting matlab but this just skips the splash screen the first window with the picture of the membrane and the version number.

By default when you call the matlab command from a script the command starts matlab and then immediately executes the next statements in the script.
Run current matlab script which runs the currently opened matlab script and then allows the user to interact with it through the opened terminal.
It still loads into the desktop.
